Biography / Repertoire

Christel Loetzsch is a german mezzosoprano. During season 2024/25, she will debut Herodias in “Salome” by Richard Strauss at the DNT Weimar, sings Flosshilde in “Götterdämmerung” at La Monnaie de Munt, Brussels and makes her house-debut at the Opéra national de Paris as Giovane Dante in “Il viaggio, Dante” by Pascal Dusapin under Kent Nagano. Furthermore she will sing in concerts with BRSO Munich and at the Philharmonie de Paris. Furthermore she debuts Judith in “Bluebeard’s castle” Bartók, at the Tiroler Festspiele, Erl.

2023/24 she sang Flosshilde in “Rheingold” and “Götterdämmerung”, likewise as Rossweisse in “Die Walküre” by Richard Wagner at La Monnaie de Munt in Brussels under the baton of Alain Altinoglu, Ring-production directed by Romeo Castellucci. She also sang in the RIng-production with the Philharmonie Dresden under Marek Janowski, Schwertleite and Flosshilde and also Schwertleite at the “Teatro di San Carlo” in Napels under Dan Ettinger. During Lausitz-Festival 2023 she performed as Julie in “Julie” by Philippe Boesmans under Sylvain Cambreling together with the Hamburger Symphoniker. She gave her role-debut as Amme in Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss under Sebastian Weigle at Oper Frankfurt and sang as Giovane Dante at the „Festival d’Aix-en-Provence“ in Pascal Dusapins “Il viaggio, Dante” under the baton of Kent Nagano.

Furthermore the sang Pierrot lunaire by Arnold Schönberg with Marek Janowski and the Dresdner Philharmonie, the drummer in Victor Ullmanns “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” with the Münchener Rundfunkorchester unter Patrick Hahn and Fricka in Wagners “Rheingold” at the Bühnen Bern under Nicholas Carter. Loetzsch debuted in november 2020 as Penthesilea in “Penthesilea” by Pascal Dusapin in the Philharmonie in Paris and sang also under Klaus Mäkelä “Le soleil des eaux” by Pierre Boulez with the orchestre de Paris. She debuted in 2019 under Alain Altinoglu in a new production at La Monnaie de Munt, Brussels as 3rd Witch in the opera “Macbeth Underworld” by Pascal Dusapin and sang Fricka in “Rheingold” und “Walküre” at Landestheater Niederbayern.

2013 she gave her US-Debut at San Francisco Opera as Dorabella (Così fan tutte) under Nicola Luisotti and sang 2012 Zerlina (Don Giovanni) in Arena di Verona under the baton of Daniel Oren.

From 2012-2014 she has been a member of “Junges Ensemble” at the Semperoper Dresden, debuted as Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Flora (La traviata) and worked with conductors such as Carlo Montanaro, Constantin Trinks, Omer Meir Wellber and Christian Thielemann.

Christel Loetzsch attended with Abitur Musikgymnasium Karlsruhe and did her Diplomas at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT in Weimar. Since october 2010 she studied at the conservatory Giuseppe Verdi in Milan.
